Might check the grommet where the antenna cable for the radio comes through.  I recall my 
old '78 Rabbit had that problem and there was a factory recall to fix it.  Would always 
have a soggy floor mat after a rain.  Part of the fix was to add a drip loop to the 
antenna cable inside the wheel well so that water would drip off that loop instead of 
wicking down the cable and through the grommet.
