[Vwpickups] clutch

Got the starting problems fixed and now I have a clutch problem. The cable is new a not the culprit. I can lift the clutch actuator lever on the front of the transmission with no resistance. Almost as if the pressure plate has lost all its spring tension on the clutch plate. Anyone have a thought before I start pulling the transmission out?
Anyone want to buy a restored rust free 81 Caddy?
