I know the stuff you are talking about - it's just starting to peel on my '81 Sportruck. Cabriolet's had the snap-in stuff, but this was adhesive from the factory. Don't know where to get any though. - Sorry :(

Nope Joe and Glenn, my 82 pick up, original white factory paint and it has the
recessed groove about 3/4" wide all along the body (front to back) no holes
nor trim however, just above the recess my has 1 1/4" wide 3 colors, light
blue, dark blue and black tape and it's a dealer aftermarket so, if I was in
your shoes, I remove that old trim, paint the truck and than, just like Eric
mentioned install some nice good self adhesive new trim even if there are rivet
holes so, here you have my 3 cents Glenn and, I hope it helps.  Good luck

Al

Glenn, I don't think it is an aftermarket trim. I've had 2 caddy
pickups, an 81 and an 82 and they both had
 the
same rubber insert type of body trim. I don't have any idea of where you
would get replacement trim
other than a pick n pull place. I've spent a lot of time over the years
keeping mine from getting pulled off.
I use trim glue, which is a contact cement, I think. The hard part is getting
it to stick properly. I've ended up
using a kicker (a saw trim about 1/8" and however long necessary) off the
wall in my garage to get pressure
on the glue while it dried. It helped. Sorry I can't be more help. At
first I thought you were talking about the
strip of tape on the front of the back fender which is a rock guard sort of
thing. If this needs to be
 replaced,
you can go to a home center and get tape for stair treads, 4" wide. It
needs to be 18" long for each side.
This has held up well for me, still looks brand new and it has been 5 years
since I did it. joe
