The problem is, the lots won't sell them complete.  With or without the title.  So, you couldn't even swap out the VINs (which is illegal, by the way).
 
I was able to buy 2 of them from a favored yard about 10 years ago.  But about 3 or 4 years ago, the yards were mentioning that they wouldn't be able to sell the whole thing.  Then, about 2 years ago, my yard said that they crushed all "Rabbits" bacause they weren't bringing any money.  They had 7 or 8 trucks, 4 or 5 convertibles, probably a dozen Rabbits, and an early Jetta or 2 at that time.  They also melted down the whole pile of wheels that they had (probably close to 25 or 30 sets).
