[Vwpickups] Passat VR6 oil drain plug HELP??

Neighbour has a 93 Passat, kwikky-loob place says they won't touch an oil change because there's a weird looking chunk of plastic where the drain plug should be.  She's asked me to help.

 

A quick look sees a replacement blue plastic oil plug with rounded-off hex.

 

Its a 93 passat with VR6.  Anyone know what size / thread the oil plug is?  Will one of my 1.6 diesel spare oil plugs fit?  Is there some sort of aluminum alloy oil-pan prone to stripping?  What oil filter fits a VR6?
