If you are most interested in getting things apart without breaking anything, use heat and impact... If you're driving a show truck this might be tricky.
heat the bolt heads with a small hand-held propane torch. If you have mapp gas, use that. Hammer on the end of the lug bolt, either directly with the hammer if steely wheels, or with a drift if you have alloys with recessed bolt heads.
If using a socket, try to find a 6pt. If all that fails, something will bust, and you'll have broken bolts to remove...
